Installing on Windows.
Track Impulse is signed with a verified code signing certificate, so Windows names Track Impulse PTY LTD as the publisher. You may still see a SmartScreen prompt on a new release while its download history builds. Confirm the publisher, then continue.
SmartScreen uses download volume, not safety
Microsoft SmartScreen scores software on how many people have downloaded it, not on what it contains. A brand new build starts with no download history, so it can be flagged on release day whether or not anything is wrong with it.
Signing changes what the prompt tells you. Every Track Impulse installer carries a verified code signing certificate, so Windows names Track Impulse PTY LTD as the publisher instead of "Unknown publisher". That is the line worth reading before you run any installer, ours or anyone else's.
Reputation builds against the certificate, not just a single file, so each signed release inherits the standing earned by the ones before it. The prompt gets rarer, then stops.
Browser download warning
When you download the installer, your browser may warn that the file "isn't commonly downloaded."
Microsoft Edge
- 1 Click the three-dot menu (···) on the download notification
- 2 Click Keep
- 3 Click Show more, then Keep anyway
Google Chrome
- 1 Click Keep or Keep dangerous file when prompted
The installer will save to your Downloads folder. Its name starts with TrackImpulse-Setup and ends with the version number you downloaded.
"Windows protected your PC"
When you run the installer, you may see a blue dialog saying "Windows protected your PC" with only a Don't run button visible.
- 1 Click the More info link (blue text, below the warning message)
- 2 Check the Publisher line. Windows prints the full registered company details, so it reads AU, Victoria, Williamstown, Track Impulse PTY LTD, Track Impulse PTY LTD. If it names anyone else, or says Unknown publisher, close the dialog and download again from track-impulse.com.
- 3 Click Run anyway to start the installer.
You will see this less over time. Each signed release builds on the reputation of the last, so the prompt fades as more racers install it.
Windows Defender or antivirus interference
In rare cases, Windows Defender or a third-party antivirus may quarantine the installer or flag it after download. If the installer disappears from your Downloads folder:
- 1 Open Windows Security and go to Virus & threat protection
- 2 Check Protection history for any recent blocks
- 3 Select the blocked item and choose Allow or Restore
